The Briar Patch
Rabbit Boarding Service and hobby breeder
Home

Hello and welcome to The Briar Patch, the website for people who have rabbits, want rabbits, or need a first class boarding service for their pets while away from home.

This website is also concerned with encouraging people to be self sufficient in whatever way they can. If you have any outdoor space at all, from a small back yard to a small holding, it helps to chat and share stories and advice with other like minded people.  For the past two years, since moving away from the city and getting a reasonable sized garden, I have been working towards developing a forest garden and wildflower garden.

So far we have grown a variety of vegetables and some fruit; this year we planted a small fruit garden within the back garden to give us plums, strawberries, raspberries. This years veg includes french beans, pumpkins, carrots, runner beans, onions and hopefully a variety of salad leaves.  All the compost we use comes from our large collection of rabbits, so nothing is wasted and costs are minimal.

Rabbit information

I am a member of the BRC (British rabbit council) which means I follow all guidelines and advice on standards of care for rabbits, and have a wealth of help and support available to me whenever I need it.  We have mini lops and lion head rabbits, and also some interesting cross breeds which I am currently developing through selective breeding of rabbits with the best physical type and most sociable characters.

At our home on the South Downs, we offer an excellent boarding service for rabbits in brand new, giant hutches. There are outdoor runs for daily exercise, lots of people and other pets for company, fresh food, fresh air and lots of TLC.  Whether you just need a weekend break, or are going away for a longer holiday, just contact me for more information or to make a booking.

The cost for a single rabbit per night is £5.00, two or more rabbits sharing a hutch £3.50 each. We do not transport animals, therefore owners must bring and collect their pets in a suitable travel box. Please provide the rabbit's own dry food, I provide fresh food and meadow hay. Evidence of immunisations will be required.

Baby rabbits (kits)

If you are looking for a pet rabbit, please contact me for current availability. Kits are available at various times of the year, a waiting list system is also in operation for people wanting a specific breed/colour. Mini lops cost £25 each, Lion Lops are also £25. All kits leave at 8 weeks if I am happy they are in perfect health.

Expected litters

All our expected litters have now arrived. We have a total of seven litters this Spring. There are Mini Lop kits in black and white butterfly/seal point/dark eyed white/black self. The second litter of Lops are Cashmere lops in chocolate point and seal point - there are only four in this litter. The third and final litter arrived on May 8th, and are tiny Sallander (Fire eye) mini lops in chocolate and white, and blue combinations.

We have three litters of lion lops in various lovely colours. The first litter consists of four kits, one silver otter, one black otter and two black self. They are ready at the end of May. The next litter are extra fluffly and very calm and docile due to Mum's fantastic nature. They are ready in early June, and come in black and white, cream, white and ginger and white.

To go on the waiting list, please use the Contact Me link.  Visits (by appointment only) and enquiries welcome. I will reserve a kit at 4 weeks old for a deposit of £10. Kits are available for collection at 8 weeks. Please bring a suitable pet carrier.

In The Nest

We are pleased to announce the arrival of this year's first litters. The kits were born on April 4th and April 5th, which means they will be ready to leave Mum in early June. There is one litter of mini lop kits, colours include black and white butterfly, seal point, and dark eyed white. We have one litter of Lion Lops, from a tiny black self mini lop doe and a BRC rung black otter lionhead buck. The kits are very tiny and there are 2 black self, one black otter and one silver otter.
